MOPANI – Two residents of Mokopane, Johan Smith (45) and Johannes Junius (44), briefly appeared in the Gravelotte Periodical Court on Tuesday on a charge of stock theft and causing malicious damage to property.
The case relates to an incident that took place at Chester Farm in Gravellote last Saturday morning. According to Const Sylvia Hlungwane, the spokesperson of the police in the Mopani area, the accused had allegedly proceeded to the said farm on the day of the incident. They allegedly shot and killed a cow on the farm. They later cut off its head and legs.
The statement indicates that the farm owner arrived at the scene while the suspects were trying to load the dead cow onto their vehicle. An argument ensued between the farm owner and the suspects. At that stage, the farmer had already phoned the police.
They appeared in the Gravelotte Periodical Court on Tuesday. Their case was postponed to a later date.
