MOPANI – The police in Mopani are investigating a case of armed robbery, following an incident that took place at the Shiluvani Hospital in the Maake Area on Monday morning at about 02:00.

According to the spokesperson of the police in the area, Const Sylvia Hlungwani, two security guards were at the hospital main gate when the incident occurred. Two armed men allegedly emerged from the surrounding bushes and came straight to the guards.

The statement indicates that the gunmen ordered the security guards to surrender their cellphones and a two-way radio at gunpoint. The gunmen later tied the guards’ hands behind their backs and one of the men went inside the hospital, leaving the tied security guards under his friend’s watchful eyes. The man who walked inside the hospital premises later came back, driving an ambulance.

The driver stopped at the gate and the other gunman who was watching the security guards jumped into the stolen vehicle and they drove away. No shot was fired and no one was injured during the incident.

The stolen vehicle is a White Toyota Hiace with registration GHB 627 N.

No arrest had been made at the time of going to press. The police have appealed to anyone who has information regarding the incident to contact them at the nearest police station. The police have given the assurance that they will treat any information as confidential.
