MALAMULELE – Another presenter of Univen community radio station presenter was appointed at the SABC in Polokwane.
Russel Kwinika (25) well known as “Mutsonga wa xiviri” (a real Shangaan), from the rural area of Hamtititi in the Malamulele area, received an offer to work for Munghana Lonene FM.
He started his schooling at the Tinyiko primary and obtained his matric at the Mtititi High School. He was later named Mutsonga wa xiviri, because he was promoting his language to all his listeners. He also received an award as the best newsreader in 2004 from the Far North Media Association in the Limpopo Province.
Kwinika started working for Univen radio in June 2001 as a Tsonga presenter. He worked hard till appointed as the executive producer for news and current affairs, after Patrick Mathode moved to the Phalaphala FM current affairs programmes.
“I feel very great to have been appointed by the SABC and I am looking forward to increasing the listenership, as I was doing at Univen radio. I learnt a lot of things from my role model, Dr Snuki Zikalala, who is currently heading the SABC news department,” said Kwinika.
Kwinika also told Mirror that, although he was appointed at the SABC, he would not change his normal life. He also stated that he is engaged to a lovely girl and intends paying lobola early next year.
He pledged that he is going to work harder than he was working at the Univen radio. He thanks the Univen station management who did not barricade his way.
