MAKHADO – The Democratic Alliance’ media and marketing officer, Mr Kenny Maboho raised concerns that a community radio station to be launched at Sinthumule/ Kutama must serve the public interest and not politicians.
“In a meeting held at the African National Congress’s office at Ha-Ramahantsha last month, it was agreed that the various radio stations around Sinthumule/ Kutama, such as Mvelaphanda, should unite to form one radio station in order to meet the requirements prescribed by ICASA, that there should be one community radio station in a radius of 50 kilometres. In another meeting held in our absence, things turned suspicious,” he grumbled.
He said that it left the feeling that the community radio to be established is going to turn into a political mouthpiece for certain political parties. “The DA wants to caution those who have hidden agendas that a community radio station serves the interest of the surrounding communities only, not their respective political beliefs,” he said.
Maboho also cautioned council about the tarred road from Makhado to Madombidzha, which is under construction, to inspect the road from time to time because the type of cement which being used seems to be of poor quality.
