ALLDAYS - The local Rotary Club proved that a hand that gives is better than the one that takes, when they made a generous donation in the form of a wheelchair to the victim a brutal farm attack, Mrs Dalene Keyter (60) of Dresden farm near Alldays.
The presentation took place at the farm last Thursday.
On January 4 this year, four attackers ventured onto Dresden farm and brutally killed Mrs Keyter’s husband, Ben. According to the chairman of the Transvaal Agricultural Union-SA Northern Region, Mr Johan Bezuidenhout, it was the 7th vicious farm attack in the area.
Mrs Keyter sustained serious injuries after her attackers pushed a refrigerator onto her and, from that day, she has been unable to walk. After realising that Mrs Keyter needed more special care as she was unable to walk, the chairperson of the TAU-SA Northern Region, Mr Dries Joubert, approached the Louis Trichardt Rotary Club for help.
According to Mr Joubert, the Rotary Club showed its kindness and promptly donated a wheelchair to Mrs Keyter. During the handing over of the wheelchair, Mr Johan Bezuidenhout gave credit to the Rotary Club on behalf of the TAU-SA Northern Region, adding that the co-operation between the police, farmers and members of the community has improved since three of the Keyter attackers have been arrested.
He warned motorists that, while driving in the area, they must be on the lookout for criminals, especially illegal immigrants from Zimbabwe. “We want to remind our elderly people to be always aware of their safety precautions. It is only when we can join our hands together that we can eradicate these vicious farm attacks,” he said. In expressing her appreation, Mrs Keyter said she is extremely thankful to the Rotary Club, SAPS and the farmers who gave her all the necessary support.
The TAU-SA Northern Region also called upon the MEC for Safety and Security, Ms Rosinah Macheune Semenya, to take the warnings of organised agriculture seriously, as the country can no longer tolerate the devastating effects of the senseless and brutal killings. Ward 1 councillor, Cllr Marie Helm of the Democratic Alliance, also attended the handing over of the wheelchair.
