MAKHADO (LOUIS TRICHARDT) - “I wish that all those who commit these crimes will burn in hell,” the mayor of the Makhado Municipality, Cllr Rhulani Nkuzana said, referring to perpetrators committing farm attacks.

Cllr Nkuzana said that farm attacks were a shame.

“It is disgusting and I condemn it with the contempt it deserve,” he said, while speaking at the annual general meeting of the Chairperson’s Association on July 22 at the Bergwater Hotel.

In connection with the serious crime situation, the MEC for Safety and Security, Ms Dikeledi Magadzi, visited the region two months ago. It was agreed that road shows would be held to educate the community on the “danger of farm attacks,” because those who commit these crimes “are perhaps our brothers and sisters.”

Cllr Nkuzana also mentioned the suspicion that “our brothers and sisters from across the Limpopo could also have a hand in this,” referring to the escalating crimes allegedly committed by illegal Zimbabweans.

Concerning the land claims in the Levubu area, Cllr Nkuzana said, “I am a very worried man. Levubu is the fruit basket of Africa. I am not saying that it will be, but there is the potential that Levubu might be destroyed.” The matter is, however, beyond the control of the municipal council. The mayor said that the Land Commissioner, Mr Mokono reported to him that the process of land claims was in a very advanced stage and that 90 percent of the process was completed.
