GIYANI - Learners chanted the slogan "pass one, pass all" during a demonstration at Keodi Secondary School in Giyani last week, after allegations that the principal had condoned a group of failures to Grade 12 last December.
Moses Mashabane, chairperson of the Student Representative Council (SRC), said 56 learners had failed Grade 11 in 2004 and they were condoned to grade 12 unnecessarily. He said other learners now want to be condoned, but the provincial Department of Education wants all condoned learners to return and repeat their classes.
“Returning to repeat Grade 11 will be a difficult step, as the principal has already condoned them,” he said. The spokesperson of the Department of Education, Mr Joe Mongala, said learners who failed Grade 11 must return to repeat Grade11. He further said that only those who passed Grade 11 must continue with their studies at grade 12.
Mongala said disciplinary measures are going to be taken against the principal if the allegations are found to be true.
