MAKHADO (LOUIS TRICHARDT) – A horrible accident on Wednesday morning, February 23, caused the death of 40-year-old Alan Page, son of well-known businessman, Don Page.
Alan, who was site manager with P&L Hardware, was travelling in a vehicle on the N1 to Louis Trichardt, approximately 50 kilometres from town. A taxi was heading in the opposite direction. The vehicle behind the taxi decided to overtake but apparently saw Alan’s vehicle. The vehicle attempted to get back in line but nudged the taxi. The taxi slid along the road on its side in front of Alan. Alan tried to avoid the taxi, but the vehicle flipped over as a result of the impact of the collision. Alan was killed instantly. Five vehicles were involved in the accident, which occurred around 08:20. Alan was the only fatality.
The fatal accident came as a terrible shock for Alan’s wife, Alicia, and three young children, Sean (7), Shané (4) and Cherise (3). His parents, Don and Amanda and five brothers and sisters were somewhat consoled by the stream of friends and family who arrived from Natal, Johannesburg and all over for the memorial service. The memorial service took place at brother Wayne’s farm near Ridgeway College on Saturday afternoon, February 26.
“Alicia and the children this week left town for Johannesburg after the cremation,” Don said on Tuesday. Don was grateful for the six months that Alan and his family could have stayed near them. Alan was due for a promotion at P&L. He also was an avid fisherman who loved camping with his family.
“Alan had a knack to draw people close to him. When everybody saw a problem, it took Alan just a few minutes to look at the problem and overcome it. People always liked to be near him.” Mr Page remembers tearfully how he could only identify his son by his tattoo and birthmark on his body.
“He was an exceptional guy, old blue eyes,” his dad remembers fondly.
Alan Marshall Page was born on May 14, 1964. His family and friends will remember him for the loving person that he was. The Page family expressed their gratitude for everybody’s support, especially to all the family and friends who came for the memorial service.
