PHIPHIDI - Sixty-seven passengers sustained injuries when two buses and a taxi collided along the Phiphidi road last Thursday.
According to Police Superintendent Ailwei Mushavahanamadi, the accident happened shortly after a taxi suddenly stopped to pick up a passenger and the bus, coming from Nzhelele, crashed into the the taxi. The taxi overturned and the driver lost control of his bus and was then involved in a head-on collusion with another bus.
The bus driver of Magwaba Bus Service was rescued after rescue workers used the Jaws of Life. Most of the injured were taken to the Phiphidi clinic and Tshilidzini Hospital for treatment.
Two other accidents took place in Thohoyandou opposite Tusk Venda Casino Hotel on Friday and Saturday evenings and four people sustained serious injuries.
In the accident on Saturday, the vehicle crashed into the pavement and overturned. The spokesperson for the Traffic Department in the Vhembe area, Mr Thilivhi Mulaudzi, said they are experiencing numerous instances of people’s drinking alcohol while driving vehicles.
