MOPANI – The search for a man who raped a 14-year-old girl was still continuing at the time of going to press. The incident took place at the Olifantshoek settlement in the Hlanganani area on Monday morning at about 03:00.
According to the spokesperson for the police in the Mopani area, Const Sylvia Hlungwane, the victim and her four-year-old brother were fast asleep when the incident occurred.
According to the police statement, the victim was awakened by a man who was busy raping her. When she woke up, she screamed for help. Her little brother woke up as well and joined her in the cry for assistance. Their screams were heard by the neighbours, who responded by immediately rushing to the scene.
The rapist heard them coming from a distance and got out of the room through the window. He then vanished in the surrounding bushes. The rapist is not known and the police have appealed to anyone who has information relating to the incident to contact them at the nearest police station.
