MAKHADO – The Makhado SAPS arrested a 25-year old man, who allegedly attempted to rape an 83-year old pensioner at Ha-Maelula Village on April 29, several hours later after the ordeal.

According to Insp Daniel Mbhazima Ndlovu, the suspect grabbed the pensioner on the ground, undressed and blind-folded the victim with her own traditional dress (minwenda). “Following the pensioner’s age, the suspect attempted to force himself onto the victim. Realising that his plans were not working, the suspect took the victim’s wallet containing R290, before he ran away,” he said.

Ndlovu said that the traumatised victim managed to identify the alleged rapist, which made it easier for the police to arrest him.
