MAKHADO – Two men, aged 27 and 43, have been detained for questioning at the Makhado SAPS following the recent car hijacking case that took place at the Beja road on May 1.
According to Insp Daniel Mbhazima Ndlovu, a taxi driver (39) carrying one female passenger was stopped by two male passengers at the Elim T-junction along the N1 road at 18:00.
“As they approach Beja, one of the suspect produced a firearm, instructing the taxi driver to take the Beja gravel road. A few metres away, he was instructed to stop and alight from the vehicle, where his hands were tied with a rope. A female passenger was also taken from the taxi and tied up too.
The two unknown men searched the driver and took R1 600 and a cellphone,” he said. Ndlovu adds that the thugs then fled with the groceries of the female passenger, which were inside the taxi, adding that the two captives broke loose and went to the Waterval SAPS where a car hijacking case was opened. He said that later on the same day, the taxi which is still at the Makhado SAPS, was found abandoned at Tshikuwi village.
