Cash prizes for winners of Art-at-Heart competition

News  Date: 08 July 2015

At least eight primary schools in Musina were named the winners of the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition. Each school received a voucher prize worth R15 000, which can be used to buy any building or related material from Cashbuild.

This happened during the Cashbuild Musina Store opening ceremony held on 25 June.
The competition required pupils from each school to submit their best artwork to Cashbuild. This artwork was displayed at the ceremony and will then remain on display in the Cashbuild store for the next five years.

The prize vouchers may help, in some instances, to add new doors, fix loose ceilings and obtain a few garden tools.

The Cashbuild Musina store manager, Mr Christopher Makhomu, said that it was at the store’s heart to contribute towards community building. “We are happy to see all the beautiful smiles of the pupils and their teachers,” he said. “We are here in this town as businesspeople who also know that we must serve our customers with respect and dignity.”

The principal of St Martin De Porres Primary School, Ms K Nkombesekwa, said they had a few loose ceilings that might eventually fall and hurt their learners. For their safety, they would like to start by fixing these ceilings. “We have a vegetable garden and the learners plant these vegetables themselves,” she said. “To make things easier, we would like to get some garden equipment.”
The head of department at Gateway Primary School, Ms S Fourie, said that they had recently experienced an awful break-in, and in order to make the school safer, they would like to add new doors to all the classrooms. “We want to thank Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition for being this generous,” she said. “This gesture of goodwill has also put a smile on the faces of our children.”
The artwork was judged and three winners from each school were named. Winners received Cashbuild Art-at-Heart gold, silver and bronze certificates for first, second and third place respectively.

The Manager’s Choice award went to the overall winner, Candice Mokobi from Bonwa Udi Primary School. In addition to the award, she was presented with a stationery pack and a glass trophy.
The primary schools that benefited from the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart donations are Bonwa Udi, Beit Bridge, Rixile, Gateway, St Martin de Porres, Makushu, Maroi, and Restoration.
