MAKHADO (LOUIS TRICHARDT) – The driver of the bus who allegedly caused the death of 10 people last week has appeared in court on charges of culpable homicide.
The 49-year-old driver, Enos Mavundadovhi, appeared in the local magistrate’s court on Thursday, April 28. His court appearance follows the gruesome crash between a passenger bus and a train at a railway crossing near Muraleni on Monday, April 25. Ten people died in the accident, while some 60 passengers were injured. The accident allegedly occurred when Mavundadovhi failed to stop and drove in fornt of an oncoming train.
Mavundaddovhi was not asked to plead during his court appearance and his case was postponed until May 13 for further investigation.
Andries joined the Zoutpansberger and Limpopo Mirror in April 1993 as a darkroom assistant. Within a couple of months he moved over to the production side of the newspaper and eventually doubled as a reporter. In 1995 he left the newspaper group and travelled overseas for a couple of months. In 1996, Andries rejoined the Zoutpansberger as a reporter. In August 2002, he was appointed as News Editor of the Zoutpansberger, a position he holds until today.
