NGULUMBI – Learners and educators of IT Today Learning Centre were on cloud nine when they were presented with a cheque of R30 000 by Kalahari Book Sellers. The function took place at Thohoyandou Town Hall on Tuesday.

IT Today is a rural school situated at Ngulumbi village, outside Sibasa. It was established in 2002 with only 15 kids and one teacher. Today it boasts 180 learners and 11 educators. Starting from crèche to Grade 5, the school focuses on science and technology route, with more emphasis on computer education.

The Director of Kalahari Book Sellers, Dr Nkhelebeni Phaswana, said his company is filled with joy to contribute in the development of education in the rural areas. He said he appreciates the initiative taken by IT Today of promoting science and technology education in rural areas. He also added that it is important to invest in the education of kids because they are the future leaders of our community.

Dr Phaswana continued: “Although our company was started two years ago, we have fought tirelessly to improve the standard of education in our country, especially in rural areas. This is part of our company’s mission of giving something back to the community. We hope other companies will learn that it is important to reward members of the community because they are the ones who made us what we are today.”

Obviously filled with joy, the Centre Manager of IT Today, Mrs Takalani Netshidzivhani, said the donation came at the right time when the school was experiencing a dire need of equipment like computers, printers and text books. She commended Kalahari Book Sellers for coming to the school’s rescue because the donation will benefit education in the society.

“What Kalahari Book Sellers did today is a clear indication that they care about the future of our young kids. The donation marks a new chapter in the development of education in the rural areas. We do not have enough words to express our gratitude to the management of Kalahari Book Sellers. We thank them a million times.”
