MALAMULELE – Puxley Makaukau (21) of Jilongo Village in the Malamulele area will spend the next 15 years behind bars. His armed robbery case was finalised in the Malamulele Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

The case relates to an incident that took place at Jilongo settlement during the night of March 5, 2003, at about 21:00.

The court heard that, during the night of the incident, the accused broke into the house of a 57-year-old woman. He threatened to chop her neck off with a panga if she made any noise. Makaukau then robbed the woman of four cellphones and cash amounting to R1 200.

He later vanished in the surrounding bushes. The victim managed to identify him during the ordeal. The case was reported to the police a little later. The accused could not be arrested immediately and he was on the run for several months.

His arrest came after the police received information from concerned residents. The case was postponed several times before it was finally laid to rest on Monday. Makaukau was ordered to spend the next 15 years in jail, without the option of a fine.
