POLOKWANE – The TAU-SA Northern Region is committed to the development and empowerment of all communities. It fully supports community development and training.

The Chairperson of the TAU-SA Northern Region, Mr Dries Joubert, said it is of vital importance that volunteers are being trained especially in the light of the current high crime rate in South Africa.

He commented on the first training session conducted by the Regional Manager of the TAU-SA Northern Region, Ms Marie Helm, during the weekend of May 20. The training is being organized at the request and on behalf of the Community Policing Forum in Makhado (Louis Trichardt).

Ms Helm thanked Ms Girley Madisha from the Fundisizwe Health and Social Development NGO who is responsible for all the arrangements.

Three training sessions were conducted: Introduction to Trauma and Your Role as Volunteer, Domestic Violence and the Law, and a short workshop on the importance of administration and “guidelines for newly established Trauma Centres.”

The next training weekend will be from June 17 to 18. Capt Du Toit from the SAPS Forensic Laboratory is responsible for the workshop on rape. Ms Doris Hlongwane and Carina Harding, social workers from Louis Trichardt, will also participate as lecturers.

Lecturers are not paid. The TAU-SA Northern Region thanked those who are willing to freely give their time and expertise to train volunteers.
