MAKHADO (LOUIS TRICHARDT) – At the start of this year, local businesses B&S Spares and Bargain Centre launched a series of complaints at the municipality for the water smelling strongly of urine that was always flowing past their shop fronts in the street.
B&S Spares launched a series of complaints when the municipality did not do anything about the smelly water. The main reason for the foul water was a broken tap behind the public toilets of the nearby parking lot behind the shopping centre.
B&S Spares say that they have been complaining about the foul urine smell for the last two to three months, but that, to date nothing, has been done to solve this problem. They say that the smell was starting to affect their business, as clients did not want to go there because of the urine smell.
The municipality sent out a plumber to fix the problem last week after a media enquiry. Mr Peter Magwala, Director Corporate Services for the municipality, said that “he would like to apologise for this and that it’s not the intention of the municipality to pollute the environment.” Mr Magwala called upon residents to report any problems so that they can solve it and provide a service to the people of the Makhado Municipal area.
