Young people from Vhulaudzi in the Nzhelele area have finally found "a line of attack aimed at minimising crime and developing the community," with the establishment of an organisation called Vision and Change Centre for Youth Solutions.

The organisation invited pupils from different schools around the area to participate in a drama competition. The organisers of the event stated that they were keen to fight criminal activities in their community by teaching people good morals through plays, poetry, drama and dance.

Pupils from primary level to Grade 12 took part in drama, poetry and storytelling.

“The competition is of vital importance in the future of these kids, because we are preparing them to face the future with confidence. We want to promote a culture of reading and encourage the learners to speak with confidence," said Mr Lawrence Manenzhe, the founder and coordinator.

He said he came up with the initiative after realising that young people had nothing positive to keep them busy, except soccer.“We wanted to come up with something new to keep them occupied. The main aim of the organisation is to develop the community through the community,” he explained.

According to him, sport, arts and culture are the perfect tools for the community to use to bring people in the area together. He further said the organisation wanted to produce actors and poets to represent the community in big events around the world.

In drama, William Matshusa won the event, followed by Precious Mandiwana in second position and Nthuseni Mukwevho in third. In poetry, Mulalo Tshibvumo ended in first position, Fhumulani Phakamisa came second and Ritshidze Muremi third.
