News Date: 03 December 2015
Every single chair was filled in the Agapé Christian Centre for their last African Choir concert that was held at the church hall last week.
The “One tribe under Heaven” performance was the last for Grant and Bernice Clifton, who bid the town farewell at the end of December. They served the Agapé congregation for more than a decade as pastors, worship leaders, revivalists and highly gifted musicians.
During the concert, Afrikaans, English, Venda and other African languages were included in the performance. Concertgoers had the opportunity to part take in Agapé’s very own version of the popular music show Noot-vir-Noot and also got their rhythmical abilities tested by Grant. It soon became clear that it takes a lot of effort to become as rhythmical as the choir members - who make it look so effortless.
They showed off their skills with two songs that they performed without any backtrack music in a special tribute to Eskom. As the evening progressed, the choir’s performance pulled the audience in, and more and more residents spontaneously burst out in worship.
The choir performed for two nights, before bidding the Cliftons farewell on their new adventure in Bloemfontein to join the team at Our Father’s Home with Pastor Cornelis and Jealine van Heyningen and the Creare Training Centre, a ministry school of arts where they both studied.
In the meantime, residents who missed out on this performance can contact the church office to pre-order the choir’s full-length album. The album is set to be released early in January of next year, and is packed with songs in various languages.
For more information, the office can be contacted during normal office hours at Tel 015 516 3725.
