The top members of staff of the Vhembe TVET College received awardss during the college’s recent year-end function and the CEO Performance Awards ceremony.
The award ceremony was held at the Karibu Hotel outside Tzaneen and saw many staff members and a number of specially selected individuals go home with certificates, tablets, cash, flat-screen television sets and microwave ovens.
College CEO Ms Basani Hlekani said the awards were aimed at motivating staff as a way of improving service at the college. “The awards have positive spin-offs, as they instill as sense of competitiveness among the staff members. We have set ourselves high standards. The selection was strictly monitored and this will see us grow as an institution in the long run. This has proved to be fruitful and staff are giving their best to the institution."
Council member Dr Fhatuwani Mutuvhi urged staff members to roll up their sleeves and make the awards worthwhile. "If we do not improve the quality of our work to see many students perform well, the awards will be meaningless. Let us work hard and make sure they improve on a yearly basis," he said.
Mr Tshilidzi Budeli, a lecturer at the college, was voted the best overall staff member and went home with R15 000, a plasma TV and an iPad as prizes.
