Top matriculants from the labour-sending areas of Musina and Blouberg enjoyed a morning with De Beers Venetia Mine’s general manager where they were recognised for their achievements.

The class of 2015 also received a motivational talk from Venetia Mine employees, Messrs Cyril Mwapaura and Alex Mabelebele, who encouraged them to always remember where they come from and to stay true to who they are. “It starts with the right attitude, and the decision you take now will shape the path you are going to take in the future. I wish each of you all of the best. Go out there and give it your best,” said the general manager, Mr Ludwig von Maltitz.

The event also hosted tertiary students currently participating in the De Beers Financial Assistance Programme. These students are continuing with their studies with financial assistance from De Beers, which goes towards funding their tuition at a university or technikon of their choice.

Gibbon Ramaremisa, the highest achieving student from Musina High School, said he was very excited and looked forward to starting a new journey at the University of Limpopo. He thanked De Beers for its continued support towards education. “I truly appreciate and applaud De Beers for the significant role that it plays in our communities,” said Gibbon.

The top three students received brand new laptops that were sponsored by Dell and the rest of the students received a token of appreciation from De Beers. The school represented were Musina High School, Eric Louw High School, Mabotha Secondary School, Thokampe Secondary School, Ntsose Secondary School and Mmatsela Secondary School.
