Awards for Mutale's achievers

MUTALE – Several residents in the Mutale Local Municipal area were recognised during the mayoral achievers awards held at the Mutale hall last Thursday.

According to the mayor of the Mutale Municipality, Cllr ML Manyuha, the sole purpose of the awards was to motivate the heroes and heroines for the good work they are doing which is also putting the municipality on the map. He encouraged the recipients to continue doing their good work.

The MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Mr Joe Maswanganyi, said that residents must promote local economic development by supporting emerging small, medium and micro enterprises. He further appealed to community members to promote their culture and to respect their traditional leaders.

During the mayoral achievers awards ceremony, Makuya Secondary School received a trophy after being nominated as the most improved school in the 2004 academic year, while Thengwe High was recognised with a trophy as the best school with the most matric exemptions.

Thovhedzo Munzhelele received the award for being the best Grade 12 learner who obtained good symbols in the previous academic year. In the sports category, the national ring announcer, Mr Mashudu Siaga, and boxing referee Mrs Christina Mudau both received awards.

In athletics, the recipients were Rofhiwa Madumi, Hendrick Raedani, Shumani Rambuwani and Aaron Nemagaya.

The 2004 Mapungubwe arts festival winner, Mr Albert Munyai, was rewarded together with Daniel Tshikunde for preserving arts and culture.

Both Mrs Elina Ndou and Mrs Johanna Mahlolo received awards for their contribution in farming. The former assistant coach of Black Leopards, Mr Solly Luvhengo, former Dynamos and Black Leopard’s player Mpho Dagada, and Edwin Ramphaba were also awarded.

The journalist of Kick-Off magazine, Edshine Phosa, together with Sunday Star bureau chief Ndivhuwo Musetha, was also awarded.

Mr Victor Ravhuanzwo, station manager of Phalaphala FM, and his junior, Joel Tangulani, also received rewards from the Mutale municipality.
