MOPANI – Mpho Monica Seerane (23) and Tumi Patrick Sehlangu (29), both from Motibidi village, briefly appeared in the Mapulaneng Magistrates’ Court earlier this week on a charge of murder. The case relates to an incident where the body of an 18-year-old-man was found inside a fridge at Motibidi village in the Bushbuckridge area last Thursday night.

Capt Maano Sadiki, the spokesperson of the police in the Mopani Area, said that neighbours became concerned when a bad smell was coming from Seerane’s house. The neighbours also noticed the flies coming out of the suspect’s home.

Realizing that the smell was getting worse with time, they became concerned and notified the police about the matter. It was about 21:30 when the police arrived at the suspect’s kraal. During their search in the house, the police found a decomposed body of a man inside a deep fridge.

According to the police statement, the deceased’s body had multiple wounds to the head. The police also found a sharp instrument inside the fridge. The police believe that the instrument was used to kill the deceased.

The deceased was identified as Tsepo Aubrey Seerane of Motibidi village, brother of the first suspect, Monica Seerane. The suspects were arrested the following day. They were not asked to plead when they appeared in court on Monday.

The case was remanded to next Wednesday, September 7. The suspects will be in custody until the next court date as their bail application was turned down. The police are investigating the matter further.
