News  Date: 23 September 2005

MAKHADO – Mr Thierry Posty is currently looking for a South African-bred horse that is fit and strong enough to use in his travels across the country.

Thierry, a Frenchman who had his 48th birthday on September 8 when he landed in South Africa, works as a psychologist and psychotherapist, with an unusual hobby of travelling through different countries on horseback. It all started when Theirry was just 18 years old when his love for horses led him to cross France and Germany on horseback. As he got older and gained more experience with horses, he went on to travel through other countries like Australia, Brazil, Canada, Cuba, Mongolia, Peru, Senegal and even the USA, all on the back of a horse.

Theirry says that he always uses a horse bred in the country he travels through and that is why he wants a South African horse. He also made a very special saddle that is light and perfect for travelling long distances. Theirry is planning to start at Musina, near the Zimbabwean border, and will travel through the whole of South Africa, also visiting Swaziland and Lesotho on the way.

The main reason Theirry wants to travel through the country on horseback is to meet new people and to try to make a small contribution to prevent the spread of AIDS by getting people informed about the disease. He says it is easier to meet new people on the back of a horse, because most people are animal lovers and it is the easiest way to get a conversation started.

According to Thierry, horses like to travel long distances, just as long as they are carefully looked after. He is not looking for someone to sponsor him with a horse, but would like to buy it. When he has finished his trip, he will sell it again. People who have or are breeding horses can contact Thierry at Tel 076 188 8520 or the Luies family at (015) 516 4102.
