“Obey traffic rules and drive responsibly”

King Toni Mphephu Ramabulana urged people in Vhembe and visitors to the region to obey the traffic laws and drive in a responsible manner during the Easter holiday.

Mphephu called upon all road users to take personal responsibility for their safety on the roads as they travelled to various destinations over the Easter weekend. "Drive safely and always keep the safety of your loved ones and other road users in mind," he said.

He indicated that the Easter holiday period  was when most fatal accidents happened on public roads. He also urged the public to keep their homes safe and never leave little children unattended. “That also includes our elderly and acutely disabled persons, who all need to be taken good care of at all times."

Premier Stanley Mathabatha insisted that communities should consider their safety during the break and mentioned that accidents often occurred after people had consumed alcohol. He said that it was wise for people to look after the spending of their money. "We often hear people crying after the holidays because of reckless spending,” he said.

He referred to the importance of Easter for Christians, but added that it was not only Christians "who feel this aura and excitement, but also people of other faiths. It is at this long weekend that millions of people decide to go home. Millions commute to Limpopo and through Limpopo to neighbouring countries."

He added that Limpopo would be filled to the brim as it was the home of three large faith gatherings. "More than three million people will visit the two Moria churches and about a million will also visit UAAF at Nzhelele at the same time,” he said.
