Members of the community of Madombidzha, Tshitasini, are still in shock, following the discovery of the body of a man next to Litshovhu High School last Saturday.
He was later identified as Mr Shumani Makhadi (44). His body was discovered by community members who were walking along the street. According to reports, he had a gaping wound on the head.
The man’s death raises more questions than answers as no one could explain what exactly had happened. The younger brother of the deceased, Mr Mboniswa Makhadi, said that the incident had really traumatized the whole family. "We were stunned about the untimely death of my brother."
He said when he heard of the incident he went to the place where the body was found. "I found a large group of people standing around and I went closer and peered down and saw the body of my brother," he added. He said that the family members were puzzled about the cause of death. "If somebody wanted his money, then they should have taken such from him and left him alone."
The police also came and took him away to do tests that will determine the cause of his death. It was reported that there was only a small area with blood on the ground.
When Limpopo Mirror arrived at the scene, the police were conducting preliminary investigations while undertakers were ready to take the body to the mortuary. The spokesperson of the Tshilwavhusiku SAPS, Sgt Thilivhali Malowa, appealed to the community to assist the police with any possible information that would lead to solving the crime. "We found the deceased's body lying on the ground," she stated. "We have opened an inquest docket and are waiting for the post mortem results. Now we can't say much."
The director of Munna Ndi Nnyi, Mr Bardwell Mufunwaini, said that they felt ashamed as an organisation when people still acted in this fashion of killing others. Mufunwaini said that it was everyone's responsibility to foster peace and good relations within the communities. “We are tired of murders, suicides and all other kind of crimes,” he said.
The ward councillor, Mr David Davhana, emphasised the point that no person had the right to take another person's life. He said the government and the church must join hands to fight the demon of murder where someone was killed every time. "Human life is very important," he continued. "It's painful to lose your loved ones. I send my sincerest condolences to the bereaved family."
Mr Makhadi will be buried tomorrow (Saturday) at the Madombidzha Cemetery. The service will start at 06:00.
In another murder case, Siloam police arrested 22-year-old Ntanganedzeni Makatu of Thonda after he allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death last Thursday.
The Siloam Police spokesperson, W/O Edward Tharaga, said that it was reported that the man and his girlfriend, Ms Lufuno Mabeda (20), had had an argument over the crèche that should take care of their two children. "He allegedly lost his temper and stabbed Mabeda in the chest. She died instantly," Tharaga said
Tharaga added that the police found a panga lying next to Mabeda´s body. Makatu briefly appeared in the Thohoyandou Magistrate's Court on Monday and the case was postponed to 13 April for a bail application.
Ms Mabeda will be buried at the Ha- Khakhu cemetery tomorrow (Saturday). The service will be held at Thononda and will start at 06:00.
