Murder case under investigation

MOPANI – The police in the Mopani area are investigating two murder cases, following two separate incidents that took place in the area over the past weekend.

The first incident, in which a 26-year-old man, Tinyiko Lawrence Mathebula, allegedly shot and killed his sister, occurred at the Ntsako settlement in the Letsitele area last Saturday evening at about 19:00.

According to the police statement, the deceased and her brother, were apparently engaged in a heated debate during the night of the incident. The statement indicates that their argument revolved around the food that was bought from the local supermarket earlier that day.

During the argument, Tinyiko allegedly produced a firearm and shot the deceased in the head. She died on the spot. The deceased was identified as Mihloti Ryna Mathebula (31). The suspect was found lying in a pool of blood with a bullet wound to the head the following day. He was taken to the Letaba Hospital, where he died shortly after admission. The police opened an inquest docket following his death and are investigating the matter further.

In the other incident, the police have opened another murder case, following the death of Mr Solly Chauke (31) of the Letaba Estate Farm settlement. According to the police statement, the deceased was found lying in a pool of blood on the farm last Saturday morning at about 04:00. He had an open wound to the head. An ambulance was called and the deceased was taken to the nearby Letaba Hospital.

He died a few hours after his admission. The police are investigating the matter. They appealed to anyone who has information regarding the matter to contact them at Tel: 0860 010 111 or at their nearest police station.
