MOPANI – The police in the Mopani area have opened an inquest docket and an alternative murder case following the death of a well-known police officer in the area, D/ Insp Mbonyisa Thomas Mdaka (32), of Nkowankowa Township.

The incident took place at Nkowankowa Township last Saturday morning. Capt Maano Sadiki, the spokesperson for the police in the area, said that the deceased and his wife were on good terms until he left home that afternoon. According to the police statement, the deceased had allegedly told the wife that she would never see him again.

When the wife questioned him about his statement, he allegedly told her that he was going to commit suicide. That was the last time she saw him alive. Mdaka’s body was found in the bushes between Khujwane and Matenteng village on Sunday morning.

According to the police statement, there was an open bullet wound to the deceased’s head. The statement further indicates that his friend, Doctor Chirome’s (35) body was also found next to that of Mdaka. Chirome was a resident of Zimbabwe.

Chirome’s body had a bullet wound to the head as well. On arrival at the scene, the police discovered that Mdaka’s Z88 service pistol, cellphone and cash were still in his possession. Both Mdaka and Chirome’s cars were parked next to the bodies.

Mdaka was attached to the Ritavi Police Station. Although the police are suspecting no foul play, they appealed to anyone with information to contact them at the nearest police station or at Tel 0860 010 111 saying every piece information will be treated with great confidentiality.
