Donning a blue work suit and white medical rubber gloves, the mayor of Musina Local Municipality, Ald David Phologa, led his community by example when he participated in clean-up campaign on Saturday, as part of the six-month-long Musina Centenary Celebrations.
Hundreds of environmentally sensitive residents volunteered to join Ald Phologa, councillors, civil servants and a group of Musina Love Life Youth at the Spoornet parking lot in Musina, where the proceedings commenced at 08:30. Welcoming the support that the community had given to the cleanup campaign, Ald Phologa said: “I deeply appreciate your support. It is important that people volunteer to participate in this kind of programme. We regularly run other programmes that involve wages such as the poverty alleviation programme that is intended for creating jobs for unemployed members of our community”.
The Musina Centenary Celebrations commenced in July when the Limpopo Province MEC for Sports, Arts and Culture, Joe Maswanganyi, led a delegation that switched on the centenary lights and they will end in January when the community holds an Interdenominational Church Service.
