Change of heart for Nkuzana?

News  Date: 13 August 2004

MAKHADO – It seems as if the mayor of the Makhado Municipality, Clr RS Nkuzana has had a change of heart. Before, he indicated that disciplinary proceedings were to be instituted against the suspended municipal manager, Mr Rueben Rambado. At this point, however, it appears that these measures will have to “wait until the disciplinary process is complete.”

In a telephonic interview, the mayor said that the appointed legal team had already resumed with its disciplinary proceedings immediately after Rambado’s suspension on July 12. “Obviously, they are not reporting to us at this moment as that could jeopardise their investigations, but they keep in touch with Mr Rambado’s legal team. Truly speaking, some of the things they don’t negotiate with us and we have been advised not go public and speak about certain things at the municipality, due to the fear that it can jeopardise the investigations,” he said.

When asked if the Ad hoc committee’s findings have been made available to the public as he had promised, Nkuzana said that “we will definitely made the findings to the public and to you (media) after the appointed legal team has concluded its disciplinary process, because should we release them now, we can jeopardise the entire investigation”.

Even though he still remains tight-lipped about the names of other officials implicated in irregularities at the municipality, reliable sources informed Mirror that about 70% of officials are being implicated in the allegations of fraud, corruption, and nepotism at the Makhado municipality.
