News  Date: 18 November 2005

On Thursday, November 10, a security guard from National Professional Security caught two women trying to sneak out stolen goods from Checkers.

The two thieves, Nkumeleni Mavhungu (27) and Fulufhelo Ndou (32), were caught with stolen goods just as they were about to leave. The security guard standing at the door at the time realised something was wrong. She searched the two women and found stolen good hidden under their clothes.

The police were called to the scene and they immediately started their investigation against the women. The value of the groceries that the women tried to steal was just under R1 400. One of the security guards on the scene told the Zoutpansberger that this wasn’t an isolated case and that it is a syndicate from Thohoyandou operating in the area.

According to the security guard, the thieves operate in groups which are divided into pairs to steal from different shops in town. Afterwards, the good are divided between them.

Mavhungu and Ndou were sentenced to a fine of R1 200 each or three months imprisonment on Monday in the local magistrate’s court.
