In yet another spectacular demonstration of goodwill, thousands of toys were gathered during the annual national toy run on November 27 which is organized by the Toy Run Company.

Once again the girls from Ladies Circle South Africa were there to help, as some 16 000 motorcycles thundered their way through the streets of Johannesburg, bringing with them toys by the thousands. As the bikes converged at the Wesbank Race Way, a new Guinness World Record was set for the largest parade of motorcycle. Ten thousand bikes were needed, with some 11 400 bikes crossing the finish line. In total, it is said that some 40 000 motorcycles took part nationally in the toy run project.

The girls from Ladies Circle 4 (Louis Trichardt) were also there. Of the almost 25 000 toys gathered, Ladies Circle 4 had their work cut out for them to pack some 15 000 teddy bears. Although it was hard work, one and all described the event as an unbelievable experience.

Upon their return to Louis Trichardt, Ladies Circle 4 brought with them almost 1 000 of these toys for further distribution. Their first donation of toys to the 23 toddlers of the Vhutshilo Mountain Pre School near Siloam was made on Tuesday with the help of Ms Marita Slabbert from the Reach for a Dream Foundation. The said toddlers’ lives have been dramatically affected by the HIV/Aids pandemic. The toys were given to them on Wednesday as part of a Christmas party hosted by the Reach for a Dream Foundation. Light snacks were sponsored by AFB Makhado.

Ms Slabbert thanked Ladies Circle 4 on behalf of the Reach for a Dream Foundation and said they truly appreciated the donation. Adding to this, local Chair of Ladies Circle 4, Pam Schoeman, urged welfare organisation or even hospitals to contact them if they are in need of some toys to help brighten up a child’s world this festive season. Pam can be contacted at Tel (015) 516 5875.

Residents are also reminded to support Ladies Circle 4’s annual selling of Christmas trees opposite Ricky’s in the New Extension from 10:00 until all the trees have been sold, on December 10. Santa Clause will also pay a visit while children will have the opportunity to have their picture taken on his lap.
