Phalaphala FM joined hands with its sister stations, hereafter referred to as the Limpopo Combo, to launch the beginning of the 16 days of no violence against women and children on Friday, the 25th of November, 2005.
All available personnel of the three radio stations, including support services, marched through Landross Maree Street to highlight the launch to passing motorists and passersby. Over and above the launch, the Limpopo Combo had jointly commissioned a single theme for a drama which focused on non-violence against women and children.
For Phalaphala FM, the 16 days appear like a drop in the ocean as the Station had adopted a 365 days of activism in partnership with the Thohoyandou Victim Empowerment Program (TVEP), wherein the campaign of activism is highlighted in a weekly program and the station participates in activities arranged to strengthen the campaign throughout the year.
SABC Limpopo, led by Phalaphala FM Station Manager, Mr Victor Ravhuanzwo, who is also the acting general manager, has adopted Tonda Lushaka Community Home-Based Care Project, which is based at Madombidzha Village, Makhado. The project, led by its chairperson, Ms ND Nemaungani, cares for orphans (125 children at the moment). The SABC delegation will visit the centre on 8 December, 2005, to spend a day with the children, cooking for them and giving them gifts and toys. The chairperson of the delegation, Freda Chigumadzi, who is the region’s finance manager, says SABC personnel will also play games such as netball, soccer and volleyball to make Friday the 8th a day to remember and cherish for the kids. The Limpopo Combo Stations, Phalaphala FM, MLFM and Thobela FM, will also broadcast from the venue.
