A man’s efforts to beautify his house and surroundings suffered a serious setback when the artful cement oryx and crocodile he had put on display on the sidewalk of his residence at 52 Jeppe Street were vandalized.

In October this year, Mr Jonas Malada paid R5 000 to a sculptor to mould an oryx and crocodile to be displayed and serve as decorations outside his stand. On Monday, he was shocked when he discovered that his sculptures had been badly damaged by unknown people. He then opened a charge of malicious damage to property at the local police station.

Insp Daniel Mbhazima Ndlovu, Communications Officer at the Makhado Police Station, confirmed that Malada has opened a malicious damage case. “No suspects have been arrested, but investigations are continuing. “I can assure you that we will be arresting the suspect very soon, since we have loyal informers,” he claimed.
