The Limpopo Legislature has closed its business agenda for the year, and will reassemble early next year, after the scheduled opening ceremony on 4 February.
Addressing the house during its final session on Friday, Premier Sello Moloto condemned slackness among certain public service officials, and called for greater thoroughness and accountability at all levels.
He made no secret of the fact that he expected everyone, including the various MECs, to sharpen up their efforts in future, to ensure better governance in the province. His remarks came hot on the heels of strong opinions expressed by several members of the ruling party earlier last week on the unsatisfactory state of the administration of some departments.
During the session, Opposition Leader Michael Holford (Democratic Alliance), voted against the approval of Treasury MEC Joyce Mashamba’s Adjustments Appropriation Bill. He expressed strong reservations, in particular, about the transfer of an unspent treasury amount of R190 million, claiming that its final allocation had not been clearly defined.
Despite Holford’s objection, the Adjustments Appropriation Bill was approved by the House.
