Family dreams of arms and hands for one-year-old

News  Date: 16 December 2005

Ms Dorah Netshithuthuni of Tshithuthuni Village has a dream that her one-year-old Mashudu will get artificial arms and hands.

The young Nesthithuthuni was born without arms in the Siloam Hospital last year. The mother was shocked about the disability of her baby, as she has a healthy lifestyle, does not smoke or use alcohol. Before taking the baby home, both parents underwent counseling by social workers in order to cope with the baby’s disability.

According to Dorah, the boy’s father rejected him and the disability caused his parents’ ways to part. She is now responsible for him with only the R200 maintenance from the father and the child support grant of R180 per month.

She says she is desperate that her son will have a normal life with a normal education and calls on the government to help her in obtaining artificial arms for the boy. Anyone who wants to assist the boy and his mother can phone her at 076 383 6097.
