News  Date: 23 December 2005

A 24-year-old male narrowly escaped death last weekend when a complete stranger opened fire on him with a pistol.

According to a police report, the victim and two of his friends were walking along the Munzhezhi and Mthabalala gravel road near Vleifontein during the early hours of Saturday, when they were approached by an unknown armed male who fired four shots at them with a pistol.

One of the three men was wounded on his right hand. His two friends ran into the nearby bush. The suspect also disappeared into the thick bush.

The victim was then taken to the local clinic for treatment. After his release, he opened an attempted murder case.

A few hours later, a suspect was arrested after members of the community informed the police about the man’s whereabouts.
