De Beers’ Venetia Mine near Musina recently hit the jackpot, when a very large diamond, weighing 316.7 carats, was picked up by an employee, who wishes to remain anonymous.
This is the largest diamond ever recovered at Venetia Mine and beats the previous record of 272.15 carats in a stone that was recovered in March 2001. It is also the second largest recorded pick up by an employee at any De Beers diamond mine.
The employee’s diligence and honesty was recognised in accordance with De Beers’ diamond pick-up policy. This policy seeks to encourage and recognise employees who demonstrate their integrity and honesty by handing in stray diamonds.
