Jilted lover burns husband

News  Date: 20 January 2006

A jilted lover poured boiling water on her husband after finding him in bed with a lover at Dopeni Village. The incident took place on December 2005.

It is alleged that a 31-year-old woman came back home from Gauteng without informing her husband. Entering the house, she allegedly found her husband in bed with a lover. She went to the kitchen and boiled water, mixed it with cooking oil and salt, and then poured it over the head of her husband. He sustained serious burns and was taken to the Siloam Hospital, where he was treated. Due to the seriousness of the burns, the victim proceeded to the Yebo Medical Centre in Gauteng where he was treated for a week.

According to police Superintendent Ailwei Mushavhanamadi, the victim reported the matter to the police and the suspect was arrested last Thursday.

It was also reported that the police at Musina arrested two police reservists after they allegedly demanded money from 13 Malawian immigrants who were heading to their homes at a checkpoint along the N1 road last Thursday night.

Mushavhanamadi said 13 of them alighted from the City-to-City bus and arrived at the Musina Check Point where there was a road-block staged by SANDF and SAPS members, including police reservists. The two police reservists entered the bus and started searching for passports. The two demanded money from the Malawians and six of them paid up.
