A young Limpopo young mother, Avhapfani Jaqual Muhali, 18, of Mpheni village outside Makhado, gave birth to Siamese twins at Elim Hospital last Wednesday afternoon.
According to reports, the twins are Muhali’s first children, and were delivered in the normal way. They were linked at the abdomen and are sharing a female private part.
The babies, who weighed 3 440 grams at birth, have three legs and four arms. The twins and their mother were transferred to Mankweng Hospital, outside Polokwane, immediately after the birth. A day later they were transferred to the George Mukhari Hospital, GaRankuwa.
Unfortunately, one of the twins passed away during an operation to separate them at Pretoria Academic Hospital on Saturday.
