The Makhado Magistrate’s Court released John “M'javas” Chauke (19) on Monday on a warning for damaging the canvassing posters of the Democratic Alliance (DA) at Tshikota settlement last Sunday.
It is alleged that Chauke was arrested on Sunday after he was identified as the mastermind behind a group of young men who were seen tearing the DA posters to pieces.
Chauke will appear in the same court on February 24.
Insp Daniel Ndlovu, spokesperson of the Makhado SAPS, claimed that more arrests were going to be effected soon. The DA MPL, Mr Timothy Maanda, said that his party had noted the damaging of its posters with greatest dismay. Maanda said that those who hate his party must show it by voting against the DA, instead of destroying its posters. Maanda congratulated the Makhado SAPS for their reactions in this regard, added that the barbaric activities undermine the pledge signed by leaders of political parties. He said that the law must take its course if the perpetrator is found guilty.
