The University of Venda Library will join the country in the annual South African Library Week celebrations starting from next week Monday, ending on Saturday (13 – 18 March). The theme of this year’s celebration is “Libraries, partners in learning, nation building and development.”
The theme will focus on the various ways in which libraries, as the repositories of knowledge and information for future generations, contribute to learning, nation building and development.
It is also a continuation of previous years’ theme when the celebrations focused on the role that libraries can play in a democratic South Africa.
Univen Library has organized a hive of activities during the celebrations, with the main function on Monday. Local schools have been invited to take part in the activities. High school learners and Univen students will be presented with educational gifts. The guest speaker during Monday’s main function will be Mr Isaiah Ndahambi, a renowned, retired veteran librarian and a scholar. He has been a very active member of the now defunct ALASA (African Library Association of South Africa). Mr Ndhambi’s profile also includes his proactive part in the establishment of LIASA (Library and Information Association of South Africa) amongst other good things he has done in his career as a dedicated librarian.
The Univen Library marketing team aims to raise awareness about the importance of libraries and encourages patrons to use them unselfishly in their quest for lifelong knowledge.
