Cllr Glory Tsakani Mashaba is the new mayor of the Makhado Municipality. It follows after the recent local government elections.

According to the regional secretary-general of the African National Congress in the Vhembe region, Mr Ndivhuwo Mamathuba, the deployement of Mashaba to Makhado is a clear indication that she has the potential to lead and fast-track service delivery to the people. He said that this shows the achievement of the ANC's goal of gender equality and setting women free from other restraints.

Mamathuba also revealed that in Musina, former mayor Alderman David Phologa has been replaced by Cllr Caroline Mahasela, a former councilor for Sports, Arts and Culture.

Musanda Vho-Thivhulawi Makumbane of Thulamela and Cllr Lucas Manyuha of the Mutale municipalities are the only two who retained their positions as mayors in the area.

The new mayor of the Greater Giyani Municipality is Cllr Angy Ramaepadi.

A former Member of the National Assembly, Ms Irene Mutsila is the new executive mayor of the Vhembe District Municipality and Mr Humphrey Mokgobi retains his position as executive mayor of the Mopani District Municipality.

Mamathuba urged community members to give the women support to ensure the rendering of service delivery in their respective municipalities. In Limpopo province, between 45% and 48,8% are women in terms of the elected ANC councilors, while 46,08% of the ANC’s national councilors are women.
