Learners and teachers at various schools were dumbfounded when the Musina Municipality presented them with a variety of sporting equipment purchased through a R175 000 donation from the National Lottery.
To distribute the assortment of equipment, the municipality recently undertook a two-week mission to hand over materials including balls, chess sets, whistles, athletics gear, soccer kits, rugby kits, score boards and cricket equipment to the 14 schools that benefited.
Educators from both primary and secondary schools that received the donations expressed their appreciation for the equipment that they chose themselves according to their specific needs.
Thanking the municipality for their donation, the acting principal of Eric Louw High School, Jacoba Mostert, said: “We would like to thank you for this unbelievable donation. It is highly appreciated”.
The sports administrator at Musina High School, Robert Seko, expressed his school’s deepest thanks for the donation.
“The donation will enable us to unearth abundant sporting talents hidden in our learners. Our learners will be able to compete with pride against other schools. We believe the municipality has advanced the course of the disadvantaged learners,” said Seko.
The sports organiser at Bonwa-Udi Primary School, Jabu Sibanda, said: “We would like to extend our sincere thanks for the sports equipment you gave the school as a donation. We will utilise the equipment to the benefit of all learners and the entire community”.
