A resident of Makhado (Louis Trichardt) made a gruesome discovery on Saturday afternoon when he found his dog fighting over the remains of a newborn baby. The shock discovery was made on the corner of Leeu and Protea Street. Upon investigation, the resident saw his dog fighting over the hand and intestines of a baby. Local authorities were immediately contacted and after search-ing the area, more body parts were found. It is said that the mutilated state of the little body was due to the fact that it had been cut into pieces by a municipal tractor used to cut grass. According to the police’s communication’s office in Thohoyandou, the baby is said to be that of a Zimbabwean woman. A medical document found near the body states that the child was born on March 16 in Polokwane. In the meantime, the police have opened a concealment of birth docket while trying to trace the child’s mother. If found and convicted, the mother could face a penalty similar to that in murder cases. It is not known whether the baby was still alive when it was run over by the tractor. The police have urged members of the public to come forward if they are able to assist the police in their investigation.
