The Limpopo provincial government announced that Prof Harry Nenngwekhulu, Head of the Department of Education in the province, was seconded to the Eastern Cape where he will be serving as Superintendent-General for the Department of Education. The move came as a result of a partnership that the two provinces established last year. Government spokesperson Saul Molobi said during the press conference on Thursday that the seconding of Nenngwekhulu came after the talks between the two provinces when Eastern Cape Premier Nosimo Balindlela visited Limpopo in January last year. Molobi said the visit was aimed at creating a platform for the two provinces to share experiences on issues of governance and service delivery. The visit was followed by the visit of the Eastern Cape delegation led by the Director-General and constituted by her team of heads of departments. The delegation met with Limpopo’s Director-General and heads of departments over a three day period. Following the Eastern Cape’s premier’s visit, Nenngwekhulu was delegated by Premier Moloto and education MEC Dr Aaron Mot-soaledi to make the necessary interventions in developing a turn-around strategy for the Eastern Cape’s education department. Subsequent to Nenngwekhulu’s regular visits to the Eastern Cape since last year January, Balindlela approached Moloto and started negotiating possible full-time secondment of Nenngwekhulu. Balindlela made a formal request last year November and Moloto approved it. Balindlela said she believe the deployment of Nenngwekhulu into her department will help stabilize the management structure as they wanted to strengthen the head and districts offices. Balindela said Nenngwekhulu has succeeded in the area of social and stakeholder compacting which she believe is one of the greatest challenges facing our department here. The Limpopo government commended Nenngwekhulu for his commitment to provide quality learning and teaching that ensured that the province rose from scoring the lowest matric results in the country in 1994 to being one of the top scorers. Amongst other things, the best maths and science students in matric are from the province and over the past five years, the Telkom Maths and Science Teacher of the Year Awards have been won by Limpopo teachers.
