A prominent Limpopo radio announcer proved beyond doubt that education and the microphone can be merged when he was awarded a certificate and medal for being the best Mathematics Teacher during the Department of Education’s Sibasa Circuit Awards ceremony at Thohoyandou Multi-Purpose Centre last week.
Robert Mathye commands a large following when he presents and produces sports shows, reggae music and Vhaimbi na Vhasiki on Univen FM.
He mixes his roles and also teaches Grade 7 Mathematics at Mamali Sikhwivhilu Primary School, near Thohoyandou. “With these awards, I want to encourage my younger brothers to take education seriously before venturing fully into the broadcasting industry.”
Mathye says he plans his schedule carefully to make sure that his broadcasting activities do not interfere with his teaching career. “Effective time management, hard work and perseverance have made me what I am today. I have always strived for perfection in everything I do because I know success follows me wherever I go.”
Mathye says the background in which one grows up obviously has an impact when one becomes an adult. “I grew up in an indigent family and my family members always encouraged me to rely on myself. I never take challenges as stumbling block for success but I take them as learning experiences that pave my way to success.”
Mathye vows that he will scoop the same award next year. “I am always the best and I will work hard to improve my work on a daily basis.”
