Eskom, the local electricity giant, donated food parcels, furniture and a filing cabinet to the Zwoitwa Home-Based Care Centre at Tshitereke Village last Wednesday.
Mr Thiofhi Ratshitanga, Eskom’s communications officer, said Eskom is ploughing back into the communities who are buying electricity from them. The total value of the goods is R5 000.
Ratshitanga said Eskom donated food parcels and African potatoes to the Fhatanani Community HIV/Aids Center in 2005. “We also gave an office desk to the Fhatanani Centre. The African potato tablets help to strengthen the immunisation system of people infected with the virus,” he said. Ratshitanga requested that the donated goods be utilized with care.
According to Mrs Tuwani Suzan Ndivhonannyi, the Zwoitwa Home-Based Care started in 2004 with the aim of specifically assisting orphans, mentally ill people, diabetes patients, asthma patients and the elderly. “Now we have identified 19 families, 39 senior citizens and 72 other patients. We visit many sick people at their respective homes.”
Chief Tsatsawane Tshitereke said Eskom is caring for the people and communities must respect Eskom’s equipment.
