A 24-year-old man allegedly chopped his former wife, aged 21, to death with an axe at Tshahulu Village and handed himself over to the police last Monday.
Police Superintendent Ailwei Mushavhanamadi said the two had divorced few years ago, and the deceased was staying with her mother. The man paid a visit to his former wife, as there was a funeral service of relative. It is alleged that an argument between the two broke out and that he had chopped her several times all over her body. She died instantly.
Mushavhanamadi said the suspect handed himself over at the Tshaulu police station where he was arrested. He will appear in the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court soon.
Meanwhile, the Thohoyandou police have arrested a 65-year-old pensioner for allegedly shooting and killing a 34-year-old man at Lufule Villaged outside Thohoyandou on Monday. It was said that the accused alleged that the victim had been involved in a love affair with the accused’s wife.
